Singularity
By Jed Moffitt

It smells like the delta in here …old whiskey… and original sin
Bobbing like a cork on the Niagara River
Do I remember how to swim?
I am taking on water
Seeping in through a thousand cracks
Fending off leviathan
And random pirate attacks

It’s got a mind of its own
The river we are riding on
We think we are in control but we are far downstream
Down to the Ponchartrain
Alligator stew in the delta rain
Finding myself a role in the new regime
Very far gone
Very far gone

When they shoot fish in a barrel
Are they shooting at me?
Winding my lazy way down river
To the mouth of the sea
Kurzweil writes of a tipping point
When the river swallows us all
Do we land on a gentle shore
or a monster waterfall?

It’s got a mind of it’s own
The river we are riding on
We think we are in control but we are far downstream
Skating on melting ice
Itinerants vandalizing paradise
In the name of freedom and living the American Dream
Very far gone
Very far

Guitar solo

When creation exploded into smithereens
Way back in who knows when
How could we know that the billions of pieces would never find peace
until they all reassembled again?

Lyle said, if he had a boat
he would go out on the sea
Tapping into universal ego
via cowboy poetry
Is that Huck Finn catching catfish?
Singing there with Jim on the shore
Chewing on hayseeds and laughing at us all
for what we have in store

It’s got a mind of its own
The river we are riding on
We think we are in control but we are far downstream
Living on borrowed time…something’s
biting on the end of my fishing line
The devils that we think we know are never what they seem
Very far gone
Very far gone
