Agree to Disagree
by Jed Moffitt

Judy, don’t you get nasty
Your list is long, the sun has gone, the time got past me and I can’t find the dog
He was chasing that long-legged neighbor girl
He ran out through my legs
I was closing the gate
As I threw away the empties of the beer that I drank for breakfast

Sue me, if I don’t make it to the hardware store
The roof is falling in I know, it is raining, and there is water on the floor
It is reality, but also a metaphor for the state we’re in
The walls are closing in and pushing me toward the door

Can we agree to disagree about the future
Can we agree to disagree about the past
Can we agree that our good times are in the rear-view mirror
and that this thing we are was never meant to last

Winning losing right and wrong
I’m refusing, choosing moving on

Guitar solo

Judy, you look right through me
You said you could, I knew you would, you really outdrew me, my hands are in the air
Since it’s win or lose, I lose, but I don’t care
I will take my leave, and you’ll be free and clear to believe what you want to believe

Can we agree to disagree about the future
Can we agree to disagree about the past
Can we agree that our good times are in the rear-view mirror
and that this thing we are is a train wreck

Can we agree to disagree about forever
Can we agree to disagree and then be done
Forever was just a dream that we read in some magazine
as we were riding in a limousine, around the sun
