Hope
by Stan Snow

I’ve always wanted to write a song with a 5 string telecaster, tuned to open G. Keith Richards wrote many of the Rolling Stones’ songs this way. Keith inspired me, as well as Chuck Berry, who in turn, inspired him, and so on. I came up with the guitar riff first, then started to put a melody and lyrics to it. The song then became a song about Hope. In the movie, the Lord of the Rings – Return of the King, they light beacons; towers on top of the mountains, so that Rohan might come to the aid of Gondor. This signal of hope is what I was thinking of when I came up with the opening lyrics.

There’s a fire on top of the mountain
And you can see it wherever you go
It’s like a beacon in the middle of judgment day
A warning to the people you know
It may not ease your mind
But your time is gonna come
And all of those painful tears
Will get behind us
And if we stand and don’t let go
We can find a way through ……………and hang on to hope

There’s a time and place for everything
But when you’re down, there’s nowhere to go
You can search for the light in the tunnel baby
But you may never find the answers you need to know
It may not be your time
But you know it’s gonna come
And all of those painful years
Will get behind us
And if we stand and don’t let go
We can find a way through …………..and hang on to hope

Bridge / Guitar solo

Piano solo

Well you can see all the way to the promised land
If you forget about the smoke and the rain
It’s like a stranger in the heart of a desert storm
A fire in the eye of a hurricane
It may not ease your mind
But your time is gonna come
And all of those painful tears
Will get behind us
And if we stand and don’t let go
We can find a way through …………..and hang on to hope
