Johnny
by Stan Snow

I was watching the TV show “Justified” when I came up with the idea for this song. Johnny is a fictitious character but represents the craziest of the crazies. The guys who go around shooting school children, blowing up churches, etc… It’s unbelievably tragic. The bridge section in this tune has a chord progression that is a metaphorical descent into insanity, and is then followed by an out of control guitar solo. The reverse cymbal effect leading into the choruses represents a sniper’s bullet that is on it’s way to Johnny, courtesy of the national guard.

Johnny, you’re lookin’ for trouble
Dumber than a bag of hammers, you got a heart made of lead
You drive down to the local church
All riled up, you’re gonna blow it up instead

There’s something, twisted in your head
You think you’re preachin’ righteousness, but that ain’t what you’ve been fed
Burnin’ down a house of faith
You’ve been seriously misled

What got you so bent?
You got a fire in your belly and brain with a mile wide dent
Can’t you see the light is red?
Johnny, you’re nothin’ but dead

Listen, there’s choppers in the air
They’re comin’ downtown to get you Johnny, they got a sniper out there
You think you’re smarter than the national guard,
but you don’t know nothin’, and they don’t even care

What got you so bent?
You got a fire in your belly and brain with a mile wide dent
Can’t you see the light is red?
Johnny, you’re nothin’ but dead
