Fallen Hero
by Stan Snow

This song was inspired by the late great Tom Petty. When Tom spoke at the MusiCares event in 2017, just months before he died, he mentioned the song “Big River” by Johnny Cash. He said “young songwriters, you want to be a songwriter? Just listen to Big River about 60 times, and you’ll write something”. In this song, Big River is a metaphor for Tom. He is the river. The video has the river in the background, and the waterfalls. Tom is the Fallen Hero. He did so many amazing things in his life, including standing up for what he believed in. Justice for recording artists, his battle with the record industry, etc. He was a big influence on many people and will not be forgotten.

Big river flowing out of the southland
You got a dream and it’s calling to you
You don’t know if it’s truth or illusion
You gotta chase it down, it’s running you through

Drive west to the City of Angels
Blue sky, stars all around
They’ll sign you up, and take all your money
You got the goods, you’re the new kid in town

Fire and ice, are in your blood
Dead or alive, it’s not enough
You’re a fallen hero

Take your time, you got nothing to lose
They’ll tell you anything to get you to break
You gotta line’em up and tell’em to choose
You’re not ever gonna give what they take

You got a mind and a band full of horses
They got the cocaine radio spot
You got to find a way to get it all out there
It doesn’t matter if they like it or not

Fire and ice, are in your blood
Dead or alive, it’s not enough
You’re a fallen hero
