Future of Dreams
by Jed Moffitt and Stan Snow

I am going to argue that if you see “To Catch a Thief” with Grace Kelly, that basically, you can die happy if that is the only movie you ever get to see. If we were to send one piece of world culture out on a space probe to represent the apex of human achievement on earth…something to try to persuade the aliens that humanity is worthy as a species, of not being obliterated, I would send a digital copy of “To Catch a Thief”. The aliens would see Grace Kelly, and let us live. I know humans will keep making movies for as long as there is Amazon Prime, but that limitless spectrum of future movies really is just a future of dreams. Once again the Sundogs machine is churning here with Javier and Eric counterpunching rhythmically on horns, Stan flashing in and out with guitar structure and line, like a Lego tower to the sky, all cantilevered over the limitless groove of Ben Smith on drums. I played this song for my daughter in law, who is from Japan, and she said it made her feel like “Riding a Harley off into the Horizon”. Once you hear that from your daughter in law, everything else is a bonus.

Time-travel, bio-mechanical emotion,
twenty four seven in view
Genetic engineering of a holographic girl-friend,
blurring the lines between the fake and the true

Katharine Ross, she was beautiful in Stepford,
even with that little vacant look in her eye

I don’t need, a future of dreams,
To cancel what is happening now

I don’t see, where the future leads
if it takes me downtown to a hole in the ground,
where cause and effect, like the fox and the hound
watch the water run down the stream
In the Future of Dreams

Look at the sky crashing into the sea
going on forever ‘til who knows when,
but forever is a clever repetition of a Grace Kelly,
movie playing over, and over again

Sand castle narratives in rising tides,
where reason collides with what the wild imagination allows

I don’t need, a future of dreams
to cancel what is happening now

I don’t see, where the future leads
going ‘round and around, chasing motion and sound

At the bottom of the bin, of the lost and found
where the ends don’t justify the means
In the Future of Dreams

I don’t need harmonic variation
I don’t need, a dream vacation
I don’t need, a little-more time
I have what I have, and it’s working out just fine

I don’t need, a future of dreams
to cancel what is happening now

I don’t see, where the future leads
if it takes me downtown to a hole in the ground
where cause and effect, like the fox and the hound
watch the water run down the stream
In the Future of Dreams

In the Future of Dreams
In the Future of Dreams
In the Future of Dreams
In the Future of Dreams
In the Future of Dreams
